¡§I
cannot, but God can!¡¨
2007 is a
historic year for missions! It will be the 200th
anniversary of the arrival of the first Protestant missionary, Robert
Morrison, in China. During Morrison¡¦s journey to
China, a steamship captain jeered him ¡§You think
you can change these people who are steeped in their own culture and
religion for 4000 years!?¡¨ To which Morrison gave his now famous
reply; ¡§I cannot, but God can!¡¨ And God has! CMC 2007 promises to be
an exceptional gathering as we commemorate this anniversary and seek
how God would continue to call Chinese Christians to go to the harvest
field. We are so excited about this bicentennial we have chosen
Morrison¡¦s quote to be our theme.
Planning for CMC 2007 has begun!
The Lord
has blessed us with Elder Yu Muh-Chieh, from Rutgers Community
Christian Church in
New Jersey, to lead the CMC 2007 Planning
Committee. Elder Yu is in charge of RCCC¡¦s mission program and is
very passionate to move his church to the next level in mission
involvement. He will be joined by leaders from other churches who
will participate in the planning of the five different programs:
Chinese, English, Youth, Pastor¡¦s and Childrens.
The
purpose of the Chinese Mission Convention is to motivate and mobilize
all Christian Chinese and non-Chinese of their calling as Ambassadors
for Christ in all walks of life through instruction, inspiration,
intercession, and involvement. It is our desire to see Chinese
Christians as a vital missionary force for God¡¦s Kingdom, rising up to
fulfill the great commission in reaching Chinese, non-Chinese, and
unreached people groups. One uniqueness of CMC is that we have three
major intergenerational audiences: a growing number of young English
speaking Chinese who were born in the US, Chinese speaking overseas
born Chinese, and non-Chinese Christians who seek to reach Chinese for
Christ.
CMC 2007
will be held in the greater Philadelphia
region on
December 26-30,
2007. Mark your calendar and plan to attend! It will be
an exciting time to celebrate what the Lord has done and look forward
to how He will continue to raise up Chinese Christians as a vital
force for mission.
