We salute
Easter Gau
All the steppers and the mentors who came to the 3rd annual NextStep retreat 2010!
This truly was a gathering of God’s warriors in the making and was part of the training Christian to go out and make disciples of all nations!
Front Row Seat in God’s theater
I congratulated each one of the steppers and the mentors for having the privileges of witnessing God’s almighty power in changing people’s lives in the mission field.
We are called by Him to participate in His redemptive plan of bringing all peoples to Himself. For us, it is like sitting in a front row seat in a theater watching the unfolding of the divine drama of the redemption of the world.
It amazes me always how God uses all things including people’s sufferings to bring salvation to His chosen people. We are so blessed participate in God’s mission (mission Dei).
In the end, we are also beneficiaries in serving the Lord because we see God’s wondrous works which deepens our knowledge of God and strengthens our faith in Christ.
True Humanity
In the meeting, a few experienced missionaries to China shared their valuable experiences with us. This was greatly increased all the stepper’s enthusiasm and zeal for joining God in His mission. We learned of the missionaries’ passionate devotion to their calling due to their love for the Lord. Their sense of duty to the Lord is self-evident in the sharing their lives to the steppers by providing guidance and counsel, as they pouring out their lives to meet the needs of the steppers in various ways.
Most captivating was that the aroma of Jesus can be sensed through both their words and body gestures. This was an earthly portrayal of the heavenly reality of what true humanity is suppose to be.
This was a foretaste, of becoming Jesus’ messengers to proclaim that glorious eternal hope of being fully conformed into the image of Christ.
Everyone is a missionary
As much as some of us prefer doing foreign missions in the name of the Lord, it might be impossible at our particular stages of life to terminate all family obligations or put all relationships on hold in order to engage in foreign missions.
However, a broader definition for doing missions including loving and ministering to our neighbors, which was the second part of the Great Commandment (cf. Matt 22:39). And in order for us to do that, God has placed us in various relationships so that we can love and minister different people.
I salute those who have submitted themselves to God and have been faithful to their present responsibilities, while being “missionaries” in their present life situation to the people around them. Even more broadly, “missions” is ultimately about one’s attitude, a lifestyle of doing all things unto Jesus’ glory.
No matter where we live, we are living out a Christ-centered and missional life. The truth is—we always live in the presence of God—we live under His loving gaze every second and wherever we go.
Therefore, we are to do all things as unto the Lord (cf. Col 3-23).
As a Christian, we should always be “on mission” in our daily lives. To be “on mission” therefore, is God honoring attitude and lifestyle that encompasses both the internal and external aspects of our existence.
A Final Word of Thanks
Thanks to all the AFC co-workers for coordinating this retreat for the advancement of Christ’s kingdom. In the end, the co-workers told me that it is them who benefited the most from this retreat. The joy of seeing Christian soldiers in the making and the anticipation of how God will use each of the steppers in the future were most encouraging.
I trust that all of us are eagerly awaiting to see more of God’s glory manifested in and through His people.
Thanks be to God!
