For Such a Time As This
Elder Muh-Chieh Yu
The first time I attended the triennial Chinese Mission Convention (CMC) sponsored by Ambassadors for Christ, Inc. (AFC) was in 1986. At that time AFC’s vision of joining efforts with Chinese churches in the US for the sake of God’s Kingdom deeply touched my heart.
For many years I had been very busy with my career and church services. I had very limited financial resources for going on mission trips regardless of limited vacation days. Not until Jan. 8th 1995 was I finally able go on my first short-term mission trip. To my surprise after the short 8-day intensive mission services, even I got very sick from the second day, but it marked an unforgettable mission experience and it kept my passion for missions unstoppable.
After a long time praying with my wife I finally filed early retirement in 2004 and fully committed to missions. An old Chinese saying: “Traveling ten thousand miles work the same as studying ten thousand books.” In the past few years I read many books and journals about missions. I also travelled tens of thousand miles to mission fields visiting missionaries from different countries. During these mission trips I wanted to understand more about what is at the center of the biblical teaching of missions; how would Chinese churches carry out the Great Commission and the best strategies for missions in the 21st century? Throughout history Chinese churches in China as well as overseas played different roles that made an impact in different areas. The more places I go, the more I see the need for Chinese churches join efforts to expand God’s Kingdom...Read More
“For Such a Time as This”
Today in history Christian Chinese have a unique opportunity to spread the gospel! China’s rise in economic and political influence has opened doors, and the global economic crisis has created enormous opportunities. As we see these events happening we consider God’s word from Esther “And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14b NIV) In our time, God has opened wide the door for Christian Chinese to participate in His Great Commission.
